- Roll Out the Barrel is a polka, which became popular worldwide during World War II.
- Composed by the Czech musician Jaromír Vejvoda in 1927 (played without lyrics)
- 1934 was given text by Václav Zeman – with the title "Wasted Love" (Škoda lásky).
- #1 on the Hit Parade in June 1939 as the "Beer Barrel Polka"(English lyrics were Lew Brown and Wladimir Timm), recorded by Will Glahé.
- Others recording this song were the Andrews Sisters in 1939, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Benny Goodman, and Billie Holiday. Bobby Vinton's version peaked at #33 in 1975.
- Distributor, Shapiro Bernstein's, earlier 1934 recording as Rosamunde, sold well in the German version.
- During World War II, versions in many other languages were created and the song was popular among soldiers, regardless of their alliances. It was claimed many times that the song was written in the country where it had just become a hit. Its actual composer was not widely known until after the war.
- Became Liberace's signature song.
- Since the 1970s, it (usually the Frankie Yankovic version) has been played during the 7th inning stretch at Milwaukee Brewers baseball games
- Became one of the state of Wisconsin's unofficial state songs as it is also played at numerous University of Wisconsin sporting events, as well as Green Bay Packers home games, and Milwaukee Panthers basketball games, including after every home win.
- Australian Rugby League Football Club, Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks's club song (known as 'Sharks Forever') uses same tune.
- Arthur Miller's play Death of a Salesman features a recording of a young girl whistling this song.
- Chico Marx of the Marx Brothers plays a variation of this song in the movie At the Circus and A Night in Casablanca.
- The Wiggles sang this song on their album and video Sailing Around the World.
- Disney's movie The North Avenue Irregulars, features a scene using a tape recorder playing The Andrews Sisters' version while Patsy Kelly, Barbara Harris, and Virginia Capers sing along.
- An Mr. Bean: The Animated Series, episode features the Queen of England singing a portion accompanied by piano.
- In an episode of The Critic, a trained bear plays the song for Jay Sherman, the critic, trying to stay a part of his show.
- An instrumental version is featured in the 1941 film "Meet John Doe".
- Elton John was known to play this particular song at the Northwood Hills Pub.
- In the "Hogan's Heroes" episode, "Papa Schultz - Top Hat, White Tie, and Bomb Sight", include the prisoners singing part of this song.
