First
published in Germany during the early 1930s, Emil and the Detectives
tells the story of a young boy who leaves his small town and sets off on
a journey that will change his life. This film looks at author Erich Kästner as well as the cultural and political context that surrounded the creation and publication of the book in Germany.
Featured in this film: Gillian Lathey, Carl Miller, Philip Pulman and Michael Rosen
There are also 3 different films of this book. Probably the oldest of them all is my favorite.
