Sauerkraut

How much pickled cabbage is right for your diet?
I'm wondering if the following article just might persuade you to add (more?) sauerkraut to your diet.

NUTRITION

I like to add diced onions and apples, along with water and pepper when I'm cooking sauerkraut, but let's tune into see how Chef Uwe Rudnick cooks sauerkraut.

CHEF

I'm not familiar with the twiced-smoked bacon Chef Uwe uses this recipe by Schaller und Weber, but he certainly is smitten, isn't he?

What might your recipe be?

  1. I have to be honest… I really don’t like sauerkraut, so I probably won’t be adding it to my diet. But it is an interesting article, and the cooking show thing too!
I thought it was so interesting listening to the chef talk. Sometimes I noticed him using German word order, even though he was speaking English!

  2. When making sauerkraut, I would use a lot of vinegar. I would then add some diced onions, along with some green onions. Lastly, I'd add thin slices of vegan bacon and green peppers. Depending on the day, I might add in some habanero peppers to really make it unique and taste pretty good too.

  3. I never really have Sauerkraut that often, let alone make it. I would love to give a shot sometime though. If I were to make it I would probably add onions sauteed in maple syrup, to add some sweetness. I dont know if that would go well, but it might!

  5. If I were to craft my very own sauerkraut delicacy then I would probably start with the base recipe. From there, I might decide to add some flavor with fresh tomatoes and parsley. I also might try spraying fruit juices on the sauerkraut just to see how that would turn out. Lastly, I would explore the effects of aged cheese on the taste of sauerkraut

  6. The truth is I hate sauerkraut, even though it may be healthy for you that doesn't change the fact that is still gross to me.Its just one of those fods that if you didnt grow up eating it you wont like it. But if I had to make it so I could enjoy eating it i would have to put in one and only one thing and that would be bacon and lots of it. that may sound weird but thats the only way that I would eat it but then agian with the bacon it makes it completly unhealthy. but tahts just how it would be for me to actually eat the gross stuff.

  7. I love sauerkraut alone, as well as with other things (e.g. sausage/bratwurst, corned beef, etc.)So, if I were to create my own version of sauerkraut, I would add some minced pickles as well as jalapeño peppers. Maybe some chopped bacon as well. but overall, I love the original taste sauerkraut has.

  8. Sauerkraut in my opion isn't that good and i don't know why. it just doesn't have that appeal to me that some food does (like Bratwurst)

  11. I think Sauerkraut is really gross, but my mom can make a healthy chocolate cake with it, and it tastes AMAZING. You would never know that there's Sauerkraut in it.
