Reported in the INDEPENDENT • on FRIDAY 22 JUNE 2012
The first major study of the foreign language skills of Europe's teenagers confirmed what we all feared yesterday – we are the language dunces of the Continent. The survey of 16 nations – by the European Commission – revealed England was bottom in the rankings on reading, writing and listening....
"For England to lie at the bottom of a league of language competence is economically and socially dangerous," said Nick Gibb, the Schools minister.

Was glaubt ihr? (Do you suppose there's any truth in the rumor that those who learn foreign languages, thus further their skills in reading, writing and listening?)
i think learning another language also helps further your understanding of the way your own language works.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Berthold, I learned more grammar studying other languages and then could apply them to english. I know a few kids from the UK, and they all hate other languages though. Maybe because its mandatory to start with French, which is so difficult?
